SYDNEY, KOMPAS.com - Australia violates human rights by arresting 180 Indonesian children under the age of 18 years. Children are entering Australia from Indonesia as the crew carrier of passengers who want to enter into Asutralia illegally.
President of the Australian Human Rights Commission, Catherine Branson, Friday (07/27/2012), in Sydney, said the Australian government should apologize for this error. Children under the age of 18 are prohibited from jail. On arriving in Australia between 2008 - 2001, all children under 18 years old.
"But in fact, a large number of 180 children had been placed in detention centers, adult, including the guarding of prisoners with a maximum, and a number of people detained for a long time," said Branson.
Part of the 180 children, there are eight years old and have been repatriated to Indonesia. Branson said the child's age tracking method is to perform X-ray of the wrist, which proved not to be trusted.
"We know that a large number of Indonesian children under the age specified in the X-ray of the wrist was taken despite the fact that their age, when they were detained," he said.
Attorney General of Australia, Nicola Roxon, said in a statement answering the allegations by the determination of the age of children in Indonesia are correct. "Children are not placed in adult detention centers," he said. Throughout the year 2012 there 6550 illegal immigrants entering Australia through the waters of Indonesia.
